7 Rules on Safely Importing from China

Quality has continued to improve, and there’s certainly a value and flexibility there that’s hard to achieve in the US for custom or labor-intensive projects. But there are many potential pitfalls which can cause take a toll on your time, your finances, and your sanity.

1. If you don’t have the lead time, don’t do it. You can think about it, but don’t do it. Even if your purchase order is very direct in indicating a bill of lading date by which you require shipment, most factories regard this as a strong suggestion, and don’t understand just how important it is for your client, especially when the goods are being used for something like a date-sensitive special event. An agreement for the specific stages of the production plan and the boat you’ll ship on helps. So does the ol’ ‘fake date,’ where you actually have an extra week to accommodate eventualities in case they occur. Of course, to employ this latter technique, you need the time.

New 3D Sports Stickers

A couple of days ago I received an e-mail about a new promotional product. When I took a look at the website I saw that the company is from Latvia. That´s funny, because originally I am also from Latvia. This new product they are selling got my interest.

It’s now for 4 years on the market and they already sold over 5 million stickers!

This company, called SIA Globall Sports, invented a new kind of sports promotional product. It´s a 3D Sticker with a sports ball on it in 3D. There are different kinds of sport balls you can choose for your sticker. The minimum quantity is 50 units and takes 4 weeks for delivery.

Printing techniques of promotional products

In the most cases the promotional product will have to be printed. What could you supply and how does this all work?
The files you would like to have be printed on the gifts have to be related on special formats when you will deliver them.
These are:
– Vector EPS
-Tiff, JPEG. The minimum resolution should be 600 dpi for line art (drawings), and 300 dpi for grayscale and halftone work (photo).
– PDF format (in highest quality) without compression. Designs delivered with a resolution of 72 dpi or less are not useful!
– The texts can often be simply imported by the supplier and “put”, meaning that the products need an email with your text and the products will do the rest.

PPAI 2010 in Las Vegas

las vegasLast week we visited the PPAI show in Las Vegas, Surely the most important promotional product industry event in the USA, to be compared with the Düsseldorf PSI in Europe.

PPAI did not yet release information about the number of visitors or exhibitors yet, but according to information from the exibitors the attendee was down with at least 20% compared to last year, we could clearly see this at the show, there was for sure activity but it wasn’t hectic as it used to be other years. Same for the number of exibitors, estimated to be at least 10% less than last year, maybe more.
